Hello folks,
This time I selected a dialogue
between a physician and a
patient. Hope you enjoy it.
My best regards to all, Ricky.
DIALOGUE
Intern:
Hello, Mr. Davis. I
am Dr. Goldman.
Patient:
Hello, Dr. Goldman.
Intern:
How are you feeling today?
Patient:
Well, now I am feeling a little better
than I did this morning.
Intern:
What happened this morning?
Patient:
Well, to start at the beginning, I was
going to get into my car, when all of a sudden
I got a terrible pain in my chest, which went
down my right arm. After that, I broke into a
cold sweat and became really nauseated. I had
to lean against the car, because I felt I might
faint any minute. My wife saw this and came
out immediately. I told her what happened.
She then went inside and called our family
doctor. He sent an ambulance over for me and
met me in the emergency room and, well…
Here I am.
Intern:
Did the pain last for the entire period
of time before you came to the hospital and
were treated by your private physician?
Patient:
Yes, it did.
Intern:
Did the pain feel as though there was
something heavy pressuring your chest?
English Corner
Patient:
Yes, it did.
Intern:
Do you recall being short of breath?
Patient:
I honestly can’t remember.
Intern:
Have you ever had this happened before?
Patient:
No.
Intern:
Did you have rheumatic or scarlet fever
as a child?
Patient:
No.
Intern:
Have you ever had any heart trouble that
you know of?
Patient:
None.
Intern:
Have you ever had any chest pain before?
Patient:
No, this is the first time
Intern:
Is there any history of heart disease in
your family?
Patient:
Yes, my father died of a heart attack, and
so did my uncle.
Intern:
You said you felt light-headed. Is that right?
Patient:
Yes, it is.
Intern:
Then you didn’t actually experience
unconsciousness?
Patient:
That’s correct.
Intern:
Mr. Davis, I will discuss your case with
your family doctor and will be back to see you
again.
Patient:
Thank you Dr. Goldman.
